Flower Power Skincare

Mother Nature's colorful little plants can do wonders on your skin

Wrinkles. Lines. Red spots. Dark spots. Sagginess.
Nothing’s more dreadful than waking up one morning and discovering your face has gone all Clint Eastwood on you.
Sure, you’re a good person. And you have more to offer than your face. But none of that matters one shit right now, does it?
You need to experience the powers of flowers, honey. Aside from being a wonderful way to say you’re sorry for spilling bleach on your BFF’s black skinny jeans, flowers are naturally designed to give your face back some of its spellbound youth. Read on to see which buds are best for your face.

Roses

Roses may be red, but your face doesn’t have to be. Research has shown that both rose oil and rose extract reduce wrinkles and improve the skin’s elasticity, color and tone. These natural ingredients are also said to soothe and heal both irritated and damaged skin. Overall, rose-based skincare products are given a big round of applause for fighting dryness and restoring a youthful complexion.

Anemone

Far easier to use than it is to pronounce, the anemone flower is a source of kinetin, a potent antioxidant. Scientists discovered that kinetin makes the leaves of the flower stay hydrated and wrinkle-free. Evidently, the same goes for skin. Kinetin is considered a very effective anti-aging ingredient. Double score.

Cornflower

This spunky blue flower is not only one of Germany’s national flowers, but the source of some seriously excellent anti-inflammatory components. Regarded as an astringent, products derived from cornflower are recommended for use against wrinkles around the eyes.

Primrose

High in healthy fatty acids − especially in gamma linolenic acid − the oil from evening primrose is regarded as a truly ideal skin moisturizer. It is generally recommended for those who suffer from dry skin, eczema or psoriasis.

Hibiscus

The hibiscus flower is rich in alpha hydroxy acids and amino acids, which are known for their wrinkle-fighting and anti-aging abilities. Hibiscus extract is central to many skincare products that target dry skin, cellulite and skin tone. The extract helps restore elasticity and maintain the skin’s firmness.
Maybe they won’t bring about world peace (after all, the ’70s are behind us), but flower power may just perk up your skin. Groovy.
