Anyone, including us, will tell you that cooking at home is the best bet when it comes to eating better. This, of course, means making more visits to the supermarket. There are ways to make sure you’re getting the most out of your grocery trip. Here are a few big tips, free of charge.
DON’T SHOP HUNGRY
This is probably a big no duh, but it is worth saying nonetheless – don’t shop on an empty stomach. Wandering into the store when you’re hungry leads to a load of impulse buys of quite possibly not the healthiest items. So make sure you eat before you go.MAKE A PLAN AND A LIST
Invest a little time by planning what you’re going to eat for the week, and it’ll save you a lot of stress later when you’re smack-dab in the middle of a busy week and don’t want to think about what to eat. Using your meal plan, make a corresponding shopping list. The last step, obviously, is shopping by your list. Be sure to check out MealBoard. It’s a meal and grocery planner that lets you import recipes and create grocery lists from the ingredients.JOIN A GROCERY GROUP
If you didn’t know that grocery groups exist, now you know. They can help you pick up tips and tricks from fellow marketgoers – taking you from grocery shopper to grocery guru. If you don’t believe us, we’ve discovered groups in LA and NYC. But we’re sure there are more where that came from. With all that said, here’s to your next supermarket trip. Hope it goes off without a hitch. Bonus tip: avoid the cart with that one wonky wheel. Happy shopping, guys.
