A: I usually try to plan at least two weeks at a time and if I can, a month at a time. I will review my plan weekly to see if schedule changes mean my meal plan needs to be tweaked a bit, but generally I know what’s coming up on our calendar far enough in advance to know what type of meal to plan. Extra busy days mean something in the slow cooker or something extra quick and easy.
Q: What is your best piece of advice for busy families who want to serve healthy meals?
A: Meal planning! By thinking about what you want to prepare and serve, it will help you make healthy choices because you will be more likely to shop from your list and less likely to make impulse buys. It will also help you to get what you need to try out those healthy recipes you find.
Q: Can you serve healthy meals and save money by planning meals in advance?
A: Healthy meals and saving money can for sure go hand-in-hand when you meal plan. By knowing what healthy foods you want and need, you will be more likely to buy just what you need which reduces food waste and wasted money. When you meal plan you can also shop sales which will help your grocery budget.
