At this point, the question is more likely to be “what can’t our mobile phones do?” We carry them like an extra appendage, a 21st century limb, so with all of that extra knowledge at our fingertips we should take advantage of the best health apps available, right?
The answer is unequivocally – yes! We’ve scoured the app store and the Internet to find the apps that we believe are a) user-friendly, b) effective, and c) inspiring or fun to use. We believe in mental and physical health, so our recommended apps run the gamut from eating locally to expanding your mind and setting all types of goals.
There are so many ways that we can lead healthier lives, but the easier it is the more likely we are to stay on the right path. According to a recent study, the average phone user looks at their device a total of 150 times per day, so if we use a few of those glances to get healthy, and we have a knowledgeable resource, half of the work has been done for us. Okay, maybe not half, but it certainly makes it easier, and there are no excuses about cost because all of them are free.
Here are a few favorites:

Everest
Okay, we like this app because it involves how to set new goals and reach them. They say they are “founded on the belief that there is no separation between creating a better self and a better world, Everest exists to unlock the human potential.” Whether you want to learn a new language, get in better shape, or actually climb Everest, this app helps you put one foot in front of the other to reach your goal. You also can connect with other people on the same path and help each other along the way. Cost: Free.
Eat Local
This is a really simple app that helps you find out what’s in season in your city and where to find it. Eat local will turn you into a sophisticated locavore who knows where to find the best zucchini in summer and root vegetables in the fall. Use it to find local farmer’s markets and seasonal recipes, or use it while traveling to find the best local, seasonal foods. Cost: Free.
