Seemingly harmless chitchat about wrinkles and gray hair can damage your self-esteem and body image.
You’ve probably heard of fat talk, which includes comments like “Ugh, my thighs look huge!” Well, there’s such a thing as old talk, too—example: “Look at these crow’s feet!” (Sound familiar?) A recent study found that the more disparaging comments women made about signs of aging, the more insecure they tended to feel about their bodies. "There are a lot of people out there feeling really bad about themselves as they're aging," says YouBeauty's Self-Image Expert Heather Quinlan. "We need to move away from using that as a sole means of self-definition."
