Prenatal Vitamins

Do Prenatal Vitamins Make Your Hair Grow Faster?
Pregnancy is a wonderful time where many women seem to have a healthy glow about them. Many women even enjoy fuller, healthier looking, faster growing hair during their pregnancy that seems to stop abruptly after the baby is born. What causes this boost of hair growth? Some attribute the change in hair growth to the use of prenatal vitamins, but is this really the cause? The answer is yes and no. While prenatal vitamins have many of the nutrients hair needs to grow longer and healthier, a big part of the drastic change is due to the natural and hormonal changes your body goes through during pregnancy.
When you are pregnant, not only is your body going through many changes, you have likely changed a few things about your lifestyle as well, such as your diet. A healthy diet is a contributing factor to healthier, longer hair. That, coupled with the hormonal and natural changes occuring in your system lead to increased hair growth. Your body is circulating more oxygen rich blood through your system to get the nutrients to your developing baby, and a lot of those nutrients also make it to your hair follicles and help increase growth. During pregnancy, your body also produces more estrogen than before, which causes your hair to stay in the growth, or anagen, phase. Taking all of these factors into account and adding a good prenatal vitamin on top of that can lead to a drastic increase in hair growth.
After the baby is born, however, many women typically begin to experience more shedding than normal. Estrogen usually returns to normal levels within three months of giving birth which can cause the hair to shed. Don't worry though! There are many ways to help stop shedding and keep that gorgeous hair you enjoyed during pregnancy! Here are just a few:
  • Use less manipulative styling techniques and styles. Less manipulation equals less breakage.
  • Use a satin pillowcase or bonnet while sleeping.
  • Limit the amout of chemicals you use on your hair.
  • Use a sulfate and paraben free shampoo, conditioner, and protein treatment, such as Essentious Hair Care Products
  • Although Hairfinity Hair Vitamins cannot be taken while pregnant or breastfeeding, you can begin your healthy hair journey with Hairfinity Hair Vitamins after the baby is born, and keep your hair healthy from the INSIDE OUT
