STRAIGHT

The Straight Truth
Get The Skinny On Going Straight!
In the constant battle for beauty, it seems to be a universal desire for all women, if you were born with beautiful curly hair, you would give anything for silky, straight hair. If you were born with straight hair, you envy those with gorgeous curls or waves. It’s definitely easier to go from straight to curly, but what are the options to go straight?
  • Iron It Out

While it requires a bit of work, you can always use a flat iron to achieve the straight hair you want. But be careful, and know what to look for in a flat iron.
    • Plate Material – The cheaper flat irons with metal or glass plates will work, but they create uneven heat. Look for irons with ceramic, titanium, or tourmaline plates.
    • Width – If you have short hair, get a thinner plate, about an inch in width. For longer, thicker, really curly hair, a wider plate will do better, at least 2 inches wide.
    • Adjustable Heat Setting - For less curly, thinner hair, a lower heat setting will get the job done, but if you have kinky, curly, frizzy hair, a higher setting may be for you.
  • Sit Back And Relax

    • If you just don’t want to be bothered with that much work on your hair, you can always use a relaxer. This is not the healthiest option for your hair, it causes breakage and damage, sometimes irreparable, if not done correctly. Relaxers use chemicals to change the chemical bonds of your hair permanently. Be sure to read the label and follow the instructions or have a professional stylist do it for you.
  • Blow It Out

    • While it may cost a little more, a Keratin Treatment is considered a safer alternative to chemical relaxers. Keratin is the key structural component of hair and occurs naturally. Most keratin treatments do not contain harsh chemicals (be sure to look for a salon that uses formaldehyde-free formulas). Keratin treatments are also not permanent. They do not change the chemical bonds of your hair like relaxers do. Eventually they will need to be retouched because the keratin eventually becomes inactive. A good thing about using keratin treatments is that you can color or bleach your hair while using them, unlike relaxers.
