What does your sign say about your fitness destiny?
Starting this month, professional astrologer Darryl Gaines tells you what the planets have in store for your fitness life. And Gaines knows fitness in addition to the stars—he’s the super popular creator of TranscendCycle indoor cycling at Equinox.
What’s your fitness forecast for April? Check it out now!
Aries (March 21–April 19)
With so many planets in Pisces and in your solar 12th house, your energy feels like it is at an all time low. Have no fear, with your ruler Mars back at home in your sign, and the Sun now in Aries, you will have a big boost all month long. April is a good month to find a workout partner or take fellow powerhouse Aries instructor Stacey Griffith’s spin class.
Taurus (April 20–May 20)
No other sign, with the exception of Cancer, has such a struggle with weight maintenance. Taurus this month needs to pick up the pace and forgo the dessert. April is the perfect month to try CrossFit or learn from fellow Taurus super-fit trainer instructor Holly Rilinger that you can win the battle of the bulge. With energy planet Mars in your solar 12th house producing a sluggish pace, you will need a trainer to get you started.
Gemini (May 21–June 21)
You are known for your high metabolism, however, with fat Jupiter in your solar first house and Neptune in Pisces, many of you have dealt with an expanding waistline. Geminis are known for having great arms and the best lungs, so swim! Also a triathlon as a goal will do wonders for your emotional equilibrium.
Cancer (June 22–July 21)
Emotional but strong, you may have succumbed to emotional eating due to so many planets in water this winter. Mars has now moved in your 10th and is making it clear you must dress for success. Shockwave at Equinox and a visit with a nutritionist could quickly get you back in that tailored suit or LBD.
Leo (July 22–August 22)
Like Libras, you Leos love to look good. The problem is many of you lions don’t feel good. Work and relationship issues have surfaced because of Saturn in Scorpio, which is at odds with your ego. April is a good time to get centered with yoga, and long brisk walks to and from work will help.
Virgo (August 23–September 21)
Because you are so obsessed with numbers, and, due to so much opposition from Pisces, the numbers aren’t adding up, you’ve been disappointed with your training goals. For the month of April, let go! Don’t look at a monitor and try a dance class. Or, if you must fulfill your need for precision, take a Pilates class at Chelsea Movements.
Libra (September 22–October 22)
Your solar 6th house, which governs health, has had a lot of lazy Pisces energy all winter. Your trouble spots when unchecked are the lower back and butt, so a boot camp is critical. And fellow Librian Patrick Frost at Barry’s Bootcamp may well be the ticket for a better “back there.”
Scorpio (October 23–November 22)
Mighty and energetic Mars in your solar 6th house is just what you need to take your fitness goals to a higher level. With career opportunities on the horizon, you may want to push and lift hard. But take care, the groin area can be a trouble spot for you. Better to try power yoga this month.
Sagittarius (November 23–December 21)
Your love for movement has been thwarted all winter long. But with Mars moving into your solar 5th house this month, you are so ready to make up for lost time. Although you are the runners of the zodiac, it would be best to take some running classes to prevent a hamstring injury. Joey Gonzalez at Barry’s Bootcamp is a Sagitarrian and could get you safely back on track.
Capricorn (December 21–January 20)
Like Virgo, you love structure and numbers. With watery Neptune in your solar 3rd, your need for the precise and the methodical has never been stronger. A spin class with fellow Capricorn Gregg Cook could give you a sense of order and make sense of this winter’s out-of-focus energy.
Aquarius (January 21–February 18)
With so many confusing issues regarding your finances (due to all that water in your solar second house), you’ve slacked off working out the last few months. April brings just the kind of energy you live for—the new and the exciting. Try something this month you’ve never done before, perhaps a class at Physique 57 or a Krank class. Because Jupiter is in your solar fifth house, take care when running because your trouble spot—the ankles—could be vulnerable to injury.
Pisces (February 19–March 10)
A feeling of being lost at sea and sailing without a sail in murky water has packed on the pounds for many of you this winter. April brings the opportunity to see with clarity, as Saturn visits your solar 9th house. Although you may want to do restorative yoga and continue to drift, you need to get moving in a 30/60/90 class with fellow Piscean Gerren Lilles.
