Many women are learning that probiotics are a great way to treat yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis, which are caused by the overgrowth of organisms that naturally reside in your vagina. Plain yogurt with live lactobacillus cultures does the same thing—and you can address the problem right at the source. OB/GYN Mary Jane Minkin, M.D., recommends shoving some yogurt right up there. You can use an applicator from over the counter medications like Monistat, or just soak a tampon in yogurt and insert it. Doing this a couple times a day for a few days can get rid of the infection. The yogurt also soothes itching and irritation—and it's cheaper than drugs!
