Benefits of Juicing Fennel

Juicing Fennel

Fennel has a strong taste that resembles licorice. Because of this you should add carrots, pears, and celery to your fennel juice recipes. Choosing fennel is easy, it should be bought with the bulb and stems intact and should look fresh!

Medicinal Benefits

Fennel is primarily juiced for it’s medicinal effects. Some of it’s medicinal effects include: it’s a antispasmodic (suppresses muscle spasms), relieves gas, stomachic (a compound that tones and makes the stomach stronger), and fennel is also used as an anodyne which is a compound that reduces pain.
Besides these medicinal effects fennel is packed with phytoestrogens which is useful for women, especially during menopause and could lower PMS symptoms.

Nutritional Benefits

1. Phytonutrients & Antioxidants

You can think of phytonutrients as health boosters like carotenoids and flavonoids. Anethole is one of the phytonutrients that’s found in fennel. Anethole is also responsible for the strong aroma of fennel. Anethole has been shown to reduce the risk of cancer and also reduce inflammation.
Antioxidants are especially important for neutralizing free radicals that could damage your cells.

2. Vitamin C

Fennel is packed with vitamin C which is essential for increasing and supporting a healthy immune system.
Vitamin C is water soluble  and
actually neutralizes free radicals in aqueous solutions (WH Foods).

Folate is a B vitamin that is necessary for the reduction of homocysteine. High homocysteine levels are associated to heart attack and stroke since it directly targets blood vessels (WH Foods). Folate is also important for pregnant women because it prevents birth defects in unborn babies.
