DIG FIGS

Figs, the main ingredient in the once popular cookie, are sweet, chewy and crunchy and packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. So, how can you go wrong with this ancient delicacy? A word of warning: Figs are the most perishable fruit, so eat them one or two days after purchasing them. Also, look for figs that are tender and dark in color, but not mushy.
Check out some of the highlights of what figs can do for you.
  • Blood Pressure Control: Figs are a great source of potassium, a mineral that helps lower blood pressure.
  • Healthy Bones: Figs contain more calcium than most fruits, which supports bone health and reduces the risk of developing osteoporosis.
  • Satisfy Your Hunger: An excellent source of dietary fiber, figs aid in weight loss and slows digestion.
  • Amp Up: If you're feeling tired and weak, it may be due to a lack in protein. A one cup serving of fresh figs is equal to about four large pieces of fruit.
