Love sweets? Too much sugar can lead to a yeast infection.

It's hard to feel beautiful when you're all uncomfortable down there. Many women know that taking antibiotics and wearing tight clothing can lead to yeast infections, but there are other, less well-known causes, too. Eating too much sugar can stimulate yeast production, upping your chances of infection. Other culprits include panty-liners, spermicidal condoms, vaginal eczema and a drop in estrogen before your period. Everyone is different, so talk to your doctor if you sense a pattern.
Whether you're prone to yeast infections or want to make sure you never get one, swap sugary sweets for yogurts filled with yeast-fighting probiotics. Your whole body (not just your vagina) will thank you!

Yeast is a type of fungus.  The type of yeast that typically causes vaginal infections is candida albicans.  Candida albicans often live harmlessly in the body and are kept in check by other protective bacteria.  However, unbalancing substances in the body, such as antibiotics, can kill the protective bacteria, allowing yeast to multiply.  Not kept in check, the yeast can flourish, leading to a vaginal yeast infection.  Watch this video to learn more about the growth of yeast in your body!
