You Are What You Eat: Macrobiotic Diet

This is the final in my series on diets that do wonders for you skin. High in vitamin E, B vitamins, vitamin A, vitamin C and zinc, this diet will make your skin look bright, clear, dewy, toned and supple!
On the Menu: The Macrobiotic Diet

Similar to eating a vegetarian or vegan diet, the Macrobiotic Diet consists of:
  • 50% Whole grains such as brown rice, oats and spelt
  • 20-30% Fresh veggies: raw,steamed, or sautéed
  • 10-20% Soups with seaweed, beans or miso
  • 5-10% Nuts, seeds, and fruits
Only pure water and herbal teas are recommended for drinking. Variations on this diet include fish and soy such as tofu, tempeh and seitan. Caffeine, alcohol, red meat, poultry, eggs and dairy are a definite no-no on this diet.
What the Macrobiotic Diet Does for Your Skin:
The Macrobiotic Diet is balanced, with very few impurities. One of the first things you'll notice is how quickly your skin will become clear, smooth, supple and fine lines and wrinkles will lessen!
  • Vitamin A is considered the number one wrinkle fighter (along with vitamin C) that helps ensure that the skin is taut, silky soft, and youthful looking.
  • B complex is essential for metabolizing sugar for energy and relieving nervous tension and irritability, which can wind up as stress lines on your face.
  • B vitamins also give sheen to the hair and aid in combating skin disorders like dermatitis. Look for whole grains, such as brown rice, oats and whole wheat.
  • Vitamin C and Zinc are a must in the formation of collagen—that will help keep you looking young—and for vibrant hair and radiant skin.
