Weightloss Tip

To milk or not to milk?

There has been a lot of controversy about milk over the last several years. After all, we are the only mammals on earth that consume milk past infancy, and definitely the only mammals that consume the milk of a different species. Then there's the prevalence of lactose intolerance, which is the inability to digest the natural sugars in milk, therefore ...causing gastrointestinal issues. As many as 75% of minorities can not properly digest lactose, and as many as 90% of Asian Americans who are lactose intolerant in some way shape or form. As for the overall population, about 60% of people have some sort of gastrointestinal stress from lactose (whether they know it or not).

Now, let's take a look at what is in milk. Milk in itself is almost a perfect food. The ratio of carbs, fat, and protein, coupled with the dense nutrients, make milk amazing to drink. Where things get iffy is whether or not you are lactose intolerant and to what degree.

My suggestion: Take milk out of your diet completely for 2 whole weeks. No dairy, nothing, for the entire duration. Then reintroduce it back into your nutritional plan and see what happens. If you notice any discomfort, then you do in fact have some degree of lactose intolerance, and should avoid dairy, or at least decrease consumption. The inflammation that occurs within your gut is doing more harm than good. On the other hand, if there is no discomfort, gas, or any ill side effects at all, feel free to drink as much moo juice as you see fit.

P.S. Also note that the amount of total lactose in cheese is extremely low, so if you do have some sort of intolerance, perhaps you will be able to continue eating cheese.
