Yoga for the Non Believers

The excuses vary, but we’ve heard them all before: "Yoga is for flexible people and I’m not one of those people," or "those little studios never have a class that fits my schedule," to the "I really don't get into that whole 'spiritual side’ of yoga."
Don’t let the verbal roadblocks become barriers that keep you or someone you know from trying an hugely beneficial and potentially life changing form of movement.
Share a few of our favorite reasons for getting our downward dog on the next time “no thanks to yoga” comes up in your conversations (or your head).
  • Ace that test: Yoga increases blood flow and circulation to the brain, boosting mental capacity and memory.
  • All smiles: An hour of yoga increases your GABA levels, a happiness-inducing brain chemical that also lowers the risk of depression.
  • Banish aches: Improved flexibility, muscle tone and the elimination of aches and pains are all part of the long-term benefits of yoga.
  • Libido booster: Yoga reduces anxiety, increases body awareness and speeds the brain’s release of arousal hormones.
  • Strong bones: Yoga builds and improves bone density which begins to diminish as early as your 30s.
  • Better Zzz: There are a variety of postures in yoga, like twists, simple inversions and child’s pose, that help the body to slow down and prepare for a restful night of sleep.
